Sophie is a queer writer and script executive from Edinburgh. After studying Film and TV studies at Glasgow University, she worked in the production department across a range of TV and film before moving into script editing and development. Her recent editorial credits include the His Dark Materials trilogy and the BBC’s upcoming drama ‘Dope Girls’.
Sophie was selected as a writer for the Edinburgh International Film Festival Script Starter Scheme in 2021/22 where she developed a feature. She is passionate about writing Scottish stories that reflect contemporary Scotland today across a range of genres.
Riad is a Bangladeshi filmmaker based in Glasgow. His short films Where is home, A Bus Ride and A Fishing Story have screened at various festivals worldwide with A Bus Ride winning the Best Film Award at the Dhaka International Short and Independent Film Festival 2014, and A Fishing Story winning the jury award at Chitrovasha Film Festival 2020. His film A Border Between Us recently had its World Premiere at Edinburgh International Film Festival 2023. As a producer-director at BBC Media Action, Riad worked on a drama series about mental health and gender-based violence for Rohingya refugees living in Bangladesh.
